Over one billion people in the world do not have access to clean drinking water; hence, causing them to develop deadly diseases.

One cup of water can make a difference. Free Poverty allows you to donate as many cups of water as you can through an online game. Answer correctly to a question on geography and you donate the cost of "10 cups of water". I donated 347 cups in less than 5 minutes. And you?

News: FreeRice.com heading for a new record.

FreeRice.com, the now famous online vocabulary game which donates 20 grains of rice for every word you get right, is heading for a new record. So far, in February, the total balance is over 20 billion grains of rice. In concrete terms, that translates into 400,000 kg of rice, or daily food rations for over one million people. Play the game, learn and help!

Rumble: FreeRice Goes Bangladesh

I have reported in previous posts about FreeRice, the Internet game which translates your vocabulary skills into donations of rice to the hungry. Up to today, 18 billions grains of rice have been collected by all players.

That starts to translate into REAL stuff. FreeRice donated over US$200,000 to the UN World Food Programme, resulting in actual rice going to refugees in Myanmar and Bangladesh:

News: FreeRice is Yahoo's Find of the Year 2007.

In November we reported on FreeRice.com, a free, innovative and addictive online vocabulary game. FreeRice donates twenty grains of rice to development projects each time you nominate the correct synonym. In it first three months, the website visitors have assembled a total donation of 13 billion grains of rice! And the website has been nominated Yahoo's Finds of the year 2007 winner in the charitable class.

FreeRice is a simple web-computer game with a humanitarian soul. The computer game tests your vocabulary. For every word you get right 10 grains of rice are donated to hungry people through the United Nations.
The game began on October 7, 2007. Thus far over one billion grains of rice have been donated.

FreeRice is sponsored by Macy's Department Stores, Apple Computer, Office Depot, TimeLife, Inc., Fujitsu, Readers Digest and a number of other companies. The companies advertise on the FreeRice website, their small logos appearing on the site at the bottom of the screen as you play the game. The sponsors pay for all the rice donated by players playing the vocabulary game.
